Let me tell you a little bit more about 'Influencers - What I disliked about the book.

For our English class, we were asked to choose a book related to Marketing and write two different reviews about it: one positive and one negative. In this blog post I will share with you my negative review and what I disliked about the chosen book I read for this assignment.

The book I have chosen is called Influencers, written by Carole Lamarque

You can find a Dutch and English version of this book. The internet already gives a brief explanation about the consent of the book, which makes it easier to decide whether you want to purchase it.

Influencers is the first book that gives a complete picture of influencer marketing as a whole.
It allows every CEO, CMO and potential trendsetter to see how you can best spread your message and provides a step-by-step plan to determine the right magnetic content, the right timing and the right type of influencer. The book shows you how you can develop an innovative marketing and communication strategy that forms the basis for your Influencer Marketing Canvas. This Canvas positions your objectives, actions and influencers on a timeline and gives you a bird's-eye view of your plan that can help to win over other internal stakeholders. source.

But why is this the worst marketing book in my opinion? 
First of all, the book isn't very appealing to the eye. The cover looks a bit odd and has in my opinion nothing to do with the subject at all. The only thing you can connect to the cover is the sentence "And how do they light the fire?", which is written on the cover itself. In my opinion they could have used a way more interesting cover for this book than what they are using right now.

The book isn't written in a very likeable way because of the use of many different type of explanation. It takes away the concentration while reading, and I needed to repeat reading certain parts quite often because of this matter. The book constantly switches to different letter types and colours, which sometimes makes it very hard to read. They make use of a certain letter type for their titles and summary pages, which is in my opinion a very difficult one to read. Reading the book takes much longer because of the fact you might need to reread certain parts repeatedly.

What is also very unlikeable about the book is the use of information that is very common for a person working in the marketing field. Certain basic information is repeated in the first two chapters that a person studying or working in marketing already knows about, or should know about. It's boring to have to read through these pages at first, since they don't share anything new. The actual interesting information about the subject of the book appears way later which makes it hard to continue reading the book.  As a reader, you must pull yourself through the first chapters, before you reach the exact information why you decided to purchase and read this book. 

Overall, I would not recommend this book if you want to know more about Influencer marketing as I am sure there are many more interesting books that cover this topic.
